The Għaqda Filarmonika Prince of Wales Own of Birgu has officially launched a new compact disc featuring a collection of recorded band marches composed by the late Mro. Vincent Ciappara, one of Malta's most celebrated and prolific composers of feast band marches.
The launch took place at the Prince of Wales Own Band Club in Birgu, bringing together band enthusiasts, music lovers and supporters of Maltese musical heritage. The project was undertaken by the Għaqda Filarmonika Prince of Wales Own and was made possible through funding provided by the Malta Arts Council.
Mro. Vincent Ciappara is widely regarded as the undisputed champion of Maltese feast band march composition. Throughout his distinguished career, he composed hundreds of marches that have become an integral part of village feasts across Malta and Gozo. His musical style, characterised by vibrant melodies, strong rhythms and memorable themes, continues to inspire generations of band musicians and delight feast enthusiasts. He also served as musical director of the Prince of Wales Own Band for five decades, leaving an indelible mark on the society's musical history.
