The Feast Committee of St. Dominic in Vittoriosa has reached one of the most significant milestones in its history with the completion of its long-awaited new premises, a project that reflects years of dedication, vision, and commitment from the committee and its volunteers.
What once seemed to be an ambitious dream has now become a reality. For the first time, the committee will own its own property, providing a permanent home from which it can administer its work, hold meetings, and continue strengthening the organisation behind one of Birgu's most cherished religious and cultural celebrations.
The new premises have been carefully designed to meet the committee's present and future needs. In addition to administrative and meeting facilities, the property includes a newly refurbished and fully equipped kitchen area. This modern space will play a vital role in supporting the committee's many fundraising initiatives throughout the year, offering volunteers the facilities they need to organise activities more efficiently and continue generating the resources required to sustain and enhance the annual celebrations in honour of St. Dominic.
The official inauguration of the new premises will take place on Friday, 21 August 2026, marking a historic day for the Feast of St. Dominic in Vittoriosa. The occasion will celebrate not only the completion of a major infrastructural investment but also the unwavering dedication of generations of volunteers who have worked tirelessly for the good of the feast.
Beyond its practical importance, the project also carries significant symbolic value. Today, the entrance to the city of Vittoriosa is characterised by a strong Dominican identity. The newly established Dar id-Dumnikani now stands alongside the Palazz id-Dumnikani, home of the Prince of Wales Own Band Club, the Dominican Priory, and the Church of the Annunciation and St. Dominic. Together, these landmarks form a distinctive Dominican presence that continues to enrich the historical, religious, and cultural heritage of Birgu.
This achievement is much more than the acquisition of a building.
